Spas Frequently Asked Questions
What is a spa shell? Back to Top
A spa shell is the entire seating area or basin of the spa. Because it is also the most expensive components of your spa to replace, it is also one of the most important features to evaluate before you make a spa purchase. The spa shell must sustain the weight of hundreds of gallons of water, in addition to the weight of it occupants. Consequently, you should scrutinize the engineering and materials used in constructing the shell. With a Cal Spas’ hot tub, you can be confident that you own the industry’s strongest shell– our exclusive Fibersteel Construction Process™ is unparalleled in engineering and premium materials.

How do I choose the right seating arrangement / spa shell mold? Back to Top
When choosing seating arrangement / spa shell mold, you should consider for what purpose(s) your spa will be used. Are you looking for hydrotherapy massage? A place to get together and relax with family? Maximum seating to entertain friends? Or a combination of the above? Also evaluate what types of seats you find comfortable and easily accessible. Cal Spas provides a wide variety of seating plans that combine bench, contoured, and lounge seating. With over 50 spa models and a vast range of features and options, Cal Spas has the perfect hot tub to meet all your Home Resort and budget ideals.

What are "therapy seats"? Back to Top
Therapy seats are ergonomically designed to provide a relaxing, full body massage. A variety of performance jets are arranged to provide penetrating massage to neck, back, shoulders, arms, thighs, knees, calves and/or feet. Cal Spas hot tub feature several different therapy seats, each with a unique layout of jets to provide different massage sensations. Therapy seats are an important feature when considering what spa model best fits your hydrotherapy, entertainment, and/or relaxation needs.

What are the "pillows" mentioned in the spa descriptions? Back to Top
Pillows are form-fitted padding that are built into the spa shell to provide an extra measure of comfort for your head and neck. Some spa models also feature our exclusive PillowSage Headrests™ for a Shiatsu-like pressure massage to the head and neck.

Why are "removable panels" important? Back to Top
Removable panels allow easy access to the spa’s interior should your spa require service or maintenance. During our extensive quality tests, removable panels also allow our Quality Control Experts to check and re-check your spa’s interior components before your hot tub is finally shipped.

What is the recommended length of time that I can stay in my spa? Back to Top
The National Spa Institute recommends a maximum soak time of 15 minutes for adults and 10 minutes for children.

What is the safest maximum water temperature? Back to Top
It is recommended that your spa temperature not exceed 104°F.

How often should I perform a water quality check? Back to Top
Checking your spa’s water quality is a simple, convenient, and vital step. Five (5) minutes is all it takes to ensure your safety and your spa’s longevity. You should ideally check your water quality every day (see Cal Spas Clear Water Plan). However, depending on your spa’s frequency of use, you may check water quality every other day.
